Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis announced on Tuesday the addition of 13 new aircraft to the Iraqi Airways fleet, with the completion of the Nasiriyah and Mosul airports.

“This important event aims to showcase the latest developments and represents a valuable opportunity to enhance communication between the public and private sectors, contribute to the exchange of expertise and knowledge, and encourage investment,” Muhaibis said during his speech at the opening of the Iraq International Exhibition and Conference on Transport and Airports, which was attended by a Shafaq News Agency correspondent.

He added, “Experience has proven that nations that manage their transportation systems are able to shape their country’s policy,” noting that “the Ministry of Transport has achieved significant progress in the air, land, and sea transportation sectors over the past few years.”

The Minister explained that “on the land side, Iraq has joined the global system through an important step that paves the way for the development project. As for the air side, the Ministry has worked to complete the Nasiriyah and Mosul airports with an advanced system, and to introduce 13 new aircraft of various models, most notably from global American companies, in addition to completing 78 % of the requirements for lifting the European air ban on the green bird.”

Muhaibis pointed out that “the workshops held at this event, with the participation of experts, enhance strategic projects in the transportation sector,” adding that “the Development Road Project…is a lifeline for opportunities and investment. It is a national project based on rights and is transforming into an economic bridge linking East and West.”

The minister continued, saying, “Holding this exhibition in Baghdad is a clear message that Iraq can function, and that the transportation sector has become a gateway to development and prosperity for the country and the world.”

For his part, Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director General of the Iraqi Ports Company, said during his speech at the conference, “The Faw Port represents the gateway to the largest economic project in Iraq.” He emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining the progress of work and completing the project, noting that “the seventh section is now ready, and only a little remains for the port to be operational.”

Al-Fartousi explained that Faw Port projects are currently accelerating, along with the construction of a railway and land route linking the port to Europe. He emphasized that the Ministry of Transport has worked to prepare this line and the entire transportation corridor.

He added that the government is not only striving to fulfill its commitments, but also aims to make Iraq an active country contributing to linking international organizations with the transportation sector. He noted that the first phase of the Faw Port project will be completed by the end of this year.

He concluded his remarks by saying, “The government of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has formed several teams headed by the Minister of Transport with the countries participating in the Development Road Project to develop the transport sector.”

Last month, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport confirmed that 75% of the IOSA corrective program had been completed, in what it described as “accelerated” steps to lift the European ban on Iraqi Airways.
