Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadhil confirmed on Saturday the launch of a series of investment opportunities in renewable energy, including solar and wind power, as well as waste recycling projects, with the aim of boosting electricity production and reducing reliance on traditional fuels.
Fadel told Shafaq News Agency that the ministry aims to produce 10,000 megawatts of renewable energy to add to the national electricity grid. He noted that investments in this sector amount to approximately $6 billion, which will boost additional energy and increase electricity production in the country.
He pointed out that this step comes as part of Iraq’s plan to develop its energy infrastructure, achieve electricity security, and open new horizons for investment in clean energy to serve the national economy and reduce environmental emissions.
It’s worth noting that the Central Bank of Iraq is continuing its renewable energy initiative, which includes providing loans of up to 30 million dinars for residential units with low or no interest and a specified administrative fee, in addition to facilitating procedures through the Ministry of Electricity’s “UR” electronic portal.
