He said that this strategic project embodies an integrated economic vision developed by the services government headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, which has made major projects a key focus of its national program. During the Iraqi Business Summit, organized by the General Company for Iraqi Ports in the presence of Al-Sabah, Al-Saadawi explained that the port embodies the will of Iraqis to confront challenges and transform the dream into a tangible development reality. He pointed out that some projects have reached 100 percent completion rates, while others are nearing their final stages. He explained that the Grand Faw Port represents the beating heart of the Strategic Development Road, a comprehensive national project that outlines the features of a new economy and strengthens Iraq’s position as a regional hub for international trade. He added that the port constitutes an integrated transportation system that combines railways and highways to connect southern Iraq to the Turkish border, making it a vital economic corridor that contributes to stimulating the movement of goods and trade between Asia and Europe. Al-Saadawi pointed out that the project includes the establishment of an industrial city in Al-Faw and multiple investment zones in the governorates, opening up broad prospects for the industrial, agricultural, tourism, energy, and communications sectors. He explained that the port will provide more than 100,000 direct job opportunities and 1.6 million indirect job opportunities, in addition to contributing to economic diversification and reducing dependence on oil. He added that the ministry has made significant strides in preparing sustainable designs for the development road project, with cumulative design completion rates reaching 83 percent for the railway line and 68 percent for the road. He pointed out that the comprehensive economic strategy prepared by Oliver Wyman, the project’s financial and economic advisor, has been adopted. This strategy includes governance, infrastructure development, and communication mechanisms with international investors. For his part, the Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Dr. Farhan Al-Fartousi, explained that the Al-Faw project has now become an established economic reality, with two projects reaching 100 percent completion rates and two others reaching 95 percent, while work on the immersed tunnel has exceeded 75 percent. He stressed that the government is confidently moving toward transforming the port into a major gateway for the development road project, which will connect the Arabian Gulf to Europe via integrated supply chains.

Turkish Undersecretary of Transport and Infrastructure, Durmuş Onavar, affirmed that his country is a key partner in the development road project, noting that the project constitutes a strategic economic corridor linking Iraq to Turkey and the world, making the two countries a major hub for international trade in the region.

The summit concluded with an emphasis on the fact that the Grand Faw Port project is no longer merely a futuristic vision, but rather a cornerstone of Iraq’s economic transformation and a gateway to new international partnerships that will help consolidate Iraq’s position on the global economic map.
