Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) MP, Mahma Khalil, confirmed on Tuesday that his party does not support granting current Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani a second term, noting that there are indications that the majority of Shiite political forces are also leaning towards nominating an alternative figure for the next phase.
Khalil said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The Kurdistan Democratic Party does not support renewing al-Sudani’s term, for reasons related to the party and others resulting from an interpretation of the political scene and the reality on the ground.”
He added that “the party is keeping the details of the reasons behind this position for the time being,” indicating that “political interpretations and our sensors indicate that most Shiite forces are also leaning towards supporting an alternative to al-Sudani in the next phase.”
It is noteworthy that the leader in the Coordination Framework and former MP, Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, had confirmed yesterday, Monday, that the majority of the framework’s forces would not support renewing al-Sudani’s term, attributing this to what he described as “failures” in sensitive issues, especially in foreign policy, as a result of weak coordination with the framework forces.
