USD-Iraqi dinarThe Prime Minister’s economic advisor, Mazhar Mohammed Saleh, confirmed that the gold asset cycle “has reached its peak,” noting the possibility of gold prices falling again despite recent historic highs.
Saleh added to Al Furat News Agency a copy of it that this expectation coincides with the liquidity dwindling at major gold-buying banks at “critical levels,” particularly China, which is one of the largest buyers of cash gold as part of its reserves.

He pointed out that the possibility of declining inflation in the United States is an additional factor likely to lead to a decline in gold prices.

The economic advisor noted that fluctuations in the global gold market, shifting international monetary policies, and geopolitical tensions, should they change, are factors that have driven gold prices higher and could cause them to fall again.

Regarding Iraq’s reserves, Saleh explained that the country’s official gold reserves fall within the standard limits of Iraq’s foreign reserve portfolio and are managed with “high banking efficiency and professionalism,” estimating their size at approximately 132 tons.
