Iraq announces its support for Trumps initiative to end the war on GazaShafaq News – Baghdad
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its welcome on Wednesday for the initiative launched by US President Donald Trump, which aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement today, the ministry praised the declaration’s proposals for ending the war, rebuilding the Gaza Strip, and preventing the displacement of the Palestinian people, as well as its emphasis on not allowing the annexation of the West Bank.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry also expressed its “hope that these proposals will contribute to ending the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the unhindered delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Strip, and preventing any attempts to displace them.”

On Tuesday, the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, welcomed the comprehensive plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to end the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), President Nechirvan Barzani urged “all parties to engage constructively in dialogue and demonstrate a spirit of compromise, in pursuit of lasting peace, security, and prosperity for the peoples of the region.”

President Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza calls for the launch of a dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to reach a political horizon that guarantees peaceful and prosperous coexistence, while affirming that Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza, and that no party will be forced to leave it.

The initiative includes a suspension of all Israeli military operations in Gaza, including aerial and artillery bombardment, for 72 hours from the moment Israel publicly accepts the agreement. During this period, all living prisoners will be released and the remains of those killed will be returned. Under the plan, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) will release the remains of one Israeli prisoner in exchange for the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.

The plan calls for the Israeli military to withdraw according to timetables and criteria linked to the disarmament process, to be agreed upon with the Israeli forces, the guarantors, and the United States.

After completing the prisoner release, Israel will also release 250 prisoners serving life sentences, in addition to 1,700 detainees from Gaza residents after October 7, 2023.

The plan pledges to fully and immediately deliver aid to the Gaza Strip upon acceptance of the agreement. The terms, including expanding aid, will be implemented in areas the agreement describes as “terrorism-free” if Hamas delays or rejects the proposal.

According to the White House, Trump’s plan provides for a safe passage for Hamas members wishing to leave the Gaza Strip.
