Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayan Abdul Ghani, described the resumption of Kurdistan Region oil exports on Sunday as “an embodiment of the state’s sovereignty over national resources.”
This came during the ninth session of the Opinion Council, attended by undersecretaries, advisors, and general managers of oil companies and departments, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Oil.
The statement added that the minister began the session by congratulating the Iraqi people on the signing of the agreement to receive crude oil produced in the region for export through the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), noting the importance of this agreement, which is the first in 20 years.
The statement added that Abdul Ghani “praised the distinguished efforts of the ministry’s staff in reaching this agreement, which was signed by the federal Ministry of Oil, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and foreign companies operating in the region.”
The statement quoted the minister as saying that receiving the oil produced by the region is a good start and embodies the state’s sovereignty over national resources.
