Member of Parliament Mohammed al-Baldawi affirmed on Thursday his complete rejection of any agreement or understanding that would violate national sovereignty regarding the Khor Abdullah waterway. He emphasized that the waterway represents an integral part of Iraqi territory, and that relinquishing it would constitute a betrayal of the constitution and the blood of martyrs.
Al-Baldawi told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “Khawr Abdullah is purely Iraqi land, and we will not stand idly by in the face of any attempts to wrest this sovereign right, whether through understandings, documents, or misleading diplomatic formulas.”
He added, “We categorically reject any attempt to pass it on to other parties under any name or pretext. We consider any infringement on any inch of Iraqi territory a blatant violation of sovereignty and a betrayal of the trust the people have placed in their representatives.”
Al-Baldawi also issued a “stern warning to the relevant government agencies,” stressing that “any involvement in steps that undermine Iraq’s unity or weaken its historical and legal position in this file will be subject to popular and national accountability.”
