MP Yasser Iskandar confirmed on Monday that Iraq is anticipating investments exceeding one billion dollars in sectors related to the food industry.
Iskandar told Al-Maalouma that “efforts to open up the investment file and attract capital and companies have yielded positive results in Iraq, especially with the state of security stability that the country is currently experiencing.”
He added that “the country is anticipating investments exceeding one billion dollars in the food industry in its various categories, a large portion of which will be in the provinces of Babil and Baghdad, in addition to the rest of the provinces,” indicating that “these investments will enhance the principle of food security, push towards achieving self-sufficiency in some materials and reducing the cost of imports.”
Iskandar pointed out that “Iraq suffers from a shortage in some food industries, which makes these investments, a portion of which will be with Iraqi capital, an important step towards providing job opportunities and creating a high degree of flexibility in securing local alternatives to imports that cost the state huge sums.”
