Representative Hussein Ali ruled out, on Saturday, the approval of the budget tables within the House of Representatives at the present time, accusing the government of deliberately stalling in sending them to Parliament.
Ali said in a statement to / Al-Maalouma /, that “the government’s delay in referring the budget tables represents a clear negligence by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and the Ministry of Finance, which raises suspicions of an intention to open the door to corrupt deals and suspicious transactions at the expense of public funds.”
He added that “Parliament cannot proceed with discussing or approving the budget without receiving the detailed tables that specify the financial chapters and paragraphs, which makes the delay a major reason for disrupting service and development projects in the governorates.”
He pointed out that “the government’s procrastination in this sensitive file will increase the state of popular discontent as a result of the decline in services and the delay in disbursing financial allocations that affect the daily lives of citizens.”
It is noteworthy that a number of representatives had previously warned against the government’s continued delay in sending the tables, stressing that the matter opens the way to narrow interests and political understandings outside the framework of transparency.
