Member of the Coordination Framework, Imran Karkoush, revealed on Tuesday the foreign interference of countries such as Qatar and Turkey in the upcoming parliamentary elections, stressing that these countries are spending huge sums of money to support the rise of corrupt candidates who serve their personal interests within Iraq.
Karkoush said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “These countries are seeking to control some Sunni figures, led by Khamis al-Khanjar, in order to advance their agendas and achieve their own interests, using resonant sectarian rhetoric that does not represent the Iraqi people or reflect their will.”
He added, “These policies seek to divide society and incite sectarian divisions, which poses a direct threat to Iraq’s unity and political and social stability.”
Earlier, MP Hadi al-Salami expressed his concern about the risk of foreign interference and sectarian rhetoric in the upcoming parliamentary elections. He stressed that some countries are seeking to direct the political process in Iraq to serve their own interests.
