Wamda website reported that Iraq ranked fifth among the most attractive countries for investment in the Middle East and North Africa region during August 2025.
The website stated in a recently released report that the Middle East and North Africa region witnessed a sharp decline in startup funding during August, with 47 startups raising a total of $337.5 million.
Although the figure is 57% lower than July’s $783 million in funding, it is still 74% higher than the same period last year, according to the report.
Wamda added that this decline reflects the correction witnessed by the startup ecosystem in the region following the mega deals concluded in July. Most of August’s activity was concentrated in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, with momentum shifting towards proptech and construction technology (contech).
Saudi Arabia ranked first in the region, receiving $166 million in investment across 19 deals, followed by the UAE with $154 million raised by 11 startups.
Egypt, a regular in the top three, continued its decline for the second consecutive month, raising $14.7 million invested in eight startups.
Iraq dropped to fifth place after ranking third last month, with just one deal worth $1.5 million, while Morocco maintained its presence in the top four, according to the Wamda report.
