An informed source revealed on Saturday a limited evacuation operation in the northern part of the Harir base near Erbil.
The source told Al-Maalouma that “the US forces stationed at the base began, since the early hours of the morning, dismantling equipment located in the northern part of the sprawling base,” noting that “it is not yet possible to confirm whether this is the beginning of an actual withdrawal or merely a redeployment and deployment, especially since the base is undergoing development operations from time to time.”
He pointed out that “the process of dismantling the equipment concerns medium-range radar devices, according to the available information, but the reasons for the operation cannot be determined at present,” adding that “over the past six months, the base has become an important part of the support operations for US bases in Syria, as it has been transformed into a logistical support base.”
It is noteworthy that the Harir base is the second largest US base in Iraq after Ain al-Assad, and includes a large runway for landing military aircraft, especially cargo planes.
