Member of Parliament Firas Al-Maslamawi said on Saturday that the circulating talk about the withdrawal of US forces from some military bases in Iraq is nothing more than a “media hoax,” stressing that these forces are still maintaining their military presence through devious means.
Al-Maslamawi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “through these steps, the US forces are trying to delude public opinion into believing that they intend to withdraw, while in reality they are simply redistributing their positions and reinforcing some of their bases.” He explained that “this scenario aims to absorb public anger and ease political pressure demanding an end to the foreign presence.”
The MP added, “The security forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces have proven over the past years their full readiness to defend the borders and confront any external threat without the need for any foreign force,” noting that “Iraqis have made great sacrifices to protect their sovereignty.”
Al-Maslamawi stressed that the continued presence of foreign forces under any name constitutes a violation of national sovereignty, emphasizing that Parliament, political forces, and the people face a serious test of pressure to end this presence completely and definitively.
