A different scenario: Expectations of a quick formation of the new government

The current political map and agreements between various parties, particularly within the Coordination Framework, point to the shape of the new government after the November elections. There are expectations that the government and cabinet will be formed easily, without going through the political maze or disagreements between the parties that drew up the political map after 2003. This is especially true given the presence of the Coordination Framework. The compass points toward the next government emerging from within the framework and through an agreement between its various parties to re-form the current government, despite the lack of certainty about the identity of the next prime minister.
“The current data on the ground gives clear indications that the formation of the next government will be swift, unlike the postponements and delays that have occurred in the past,” Mahmoud Al-Hayani, a member of the Al-Fatah Alliance, told Al-Maalouma. “The existing alliances will lead to a change in the political landscape in terms of tactics and plans, despite the scenario regarding the selection of the prime minister and the emergence of his government from the largest bloc,” he added. “The next phase will witness the emergence of new alliances that will achieve the political majority from which the new government and ministerial cabinet will emerge, as was the practice in the past elections.”
For his part, Naseem Abdullah, a member of the Political Bureau of the Iqtidar Movement, confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “the parliamentary sessions in Iraq are not similar to each other, especially with regard to the issue of choosing the new prime minister after the elections, as the circumstances of Maliki’s arrival differed from those of Abadi, Abdul Mahdi, and the other prime ministers.” He pointed out that “the next prime minister will be chosen by agreement between the political forces within the Coordination Framework, as this framework, through its parties and blocs within the House of Representatives, will have the final say in choosing the new person to assume the premiership for the next phase. The personality of the prime minister will also be determined by the circumstances and conditions in the political arena, the House of Representatives, and the bloc that will be formed within the Council after the parliamentary elections scheduled for next November.”
Contrary to expectations, political analyst Athir Al-Sharaa, speaking to Al-Maalouma, said, “The upcoming elections will differ from previous ones, as Iraq and the region are going through a dangerous turning point. There are major regional changes, and Iraq is not immune to them. The upcoming elections will produce a parliament that is not the same as the previous elections. In addition, the formation of the next government will go through difficult labor before its birth.” He explained that “the worst thing that could happen to the Coordination Framework is keeping Al-Sudani as Prime Minister for the next stage. Despite the reservations of most of the framework’s leaders, it may be forced to keep Al-Sudani in the presidency if a solution is not reached to nominate a figure to head the next government. In addition, the next stage may witness the birth of a blocking third that could produce a government capable of holding on to the gains made during the previous stages, especially since all components do not want to lose these gains.”
