Political and media criticism of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s government has escalated, citing what observers consider a clear failure to protect Iraq’s sovereignty.
This comes amid repeated violations by foreign forces on Iraqi soil, as well as Turkey’s military expansion in the north of the country, raising widespread concerns about the government’s weak ability to manage sensitive security and diplomatic issues.

Political analyst Sabah Al-Akeili believes that the government has clearly failed to end the presence of foreign forces on Iraqi soil, despite the repeated and ongoing violations of airspace and territory.
Al-Akeili told Al-Maalouma, “The lack of government will to address this issue reflects the weak performance of the executive authority, and that the current government’s responses do not rise to the level of the magnitude of the violations, but are limited to timid positions that do not match the seriousness of the continued presence of these forces.”

In the same context, MP Madiha al-Moussawi confirmed that the Turkish military expansion in northern Iraq continues without any legal or security justification.
In a statement to Al-Maalouma News Agency, al-Moussawi said, “Turkey still occupies areas in the north of the country despite the end of the pretext of fighting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, and the expansion of its bases, especially the Bashiqa base, is a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty.”
She stressed that “the continued official silence regarding these violations weakens the Iraqi position and opens the door to new foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.”

Observers agree that the current performance of Al-Sudani’s government reflects a weakness in protecting Iraq’s sovereignty, whether against foreign forces or Turkish violations. They stress that the continuation of this situation threatens national stability and further weakens Iraq’s regional and international position.
