The Ministry of Transport announced on Thursday its most prominent achievements and upcoming projects in the maritime transport sector, confirming financial growth of more than 50 percent over three years. Ministry spokesman Maitham Al-Safi told the official agency that “the recent visit of the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Dominguez, to Iraq, and his praise of the role of maritime transport, represents solid international evidence of Iraq’s seriousness in reclaiming its position as an effective maritime hub in global trade.”
He added, “Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, has repeatedly emphasized that communicating with the world at a time when the maritime transport sector is growing is a major necessity, especially as Iraq is working simultaneously on massive strategic projects such as the Development Road and the Grand Faw Port, making maritime transport a fundamental pillar in shaping the country’s economic future.”
Al-Safi also confirmed that “the past three years have witnessed a qualitative leap in the company’s imports, reaching 174,450,363,717 Iraqi dinars in 2022.”
He pointed out that “in 2023, revenues reached 216,951,924,618 Iraqi dinars, while in 2024, they rose to 239,263,888,437 Iraqi dinars, reflecting sustainable growth compared to pre-2022, with an increase of more than 50%, a direct result of reform policies and a balanced vision.”
He continued, “These efforts have resulted in significant international recognition, as the Al-Muthanna ship was exempted from inspection at Indian Ocean ports for the first time in the history of Iraqi maritime transport. This achievement indicates the restoration of global confidence in the Iraqi fleet.”
