Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil announced on Tuesday the start of an inspection phase of Mosul International Airport’s navigation systems and equipment, using an inspection aircraft operated by a specialized company .
Al-Dakhil told Shafaq News Agency, “The inspection plane, a Szna Karban, landed this morning at Mosul Airport, and inspection operations of the navigation systems began in coordination with the relevant company.”
According to the governor, the takeoff and landing process will be repeated daily for five days until the equipment is fully inspected, calibrated, and certified. These procedures are similar to those previously implemented at Baghdad and Basra airports.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani previously inaugurated Mosul International Airport, following the completion of its rehabilitation efforts, facilitated by the Ministry of Transport and the local government.
It is hoped that the airport’s operation will be transferred to a specialized international company under an official contract, with the goal of resuming commercial flights to and from Mosul by the end of this year, thus returning the airport to an important economic and service frontier for Nineveh .
