Political analyst Dawood Al-Halfi confirmed on Sunday that the government of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has failed to manage many internal and external issues, warning that the continuation of crises without radical solutions will weaken the public’s confidence in the current government and reduce its political chances in the future.
Al-Halfi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “Iraq is facing serious crises at various levels, most notably the water crisis and the collapse of services, in light of the clear government’s inability to provide realistic solutions.” He pointed out that “the government has recently been preoccupied with electoral preparations, at the expense of urgent national priorities.”
He added, “The bridge collapse incident in Karbala Governorate revealed the extent of rampant corruption in the file of service projects, for which the government bears direct responsibility.” He pointed out that “the government has contented itself with forming formal investigation committees, without actually holding the corrupt and negligent accountable, in an attempt to absorb the anger of the street.”
He pointed out that “Al-Sudani has not made effective moves regarding the water crisis, despite the threats to Iraq’s water security, especially in the central and southern governorates,” indicating that “the government’s positions on Turkish water policy have been weak and have not risen to the level of the crisis.”
