Member of Parliament Mohammed Radhi Sultan confirmed on Saturday that the government is still not serious about submitting the 2025 budget schedules, despite two-thirds of the year having passed. He also noted the delay in amending the general retirement law. Sultan added that the amendments to the law enjoy the agreement of all political blocs, but the government is still dragging its feet in completing them and submitting them to parliament.
Sultan told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “Amending the General Retirement Law is a fair move for retirees, and political blocs agree on the necessity of passing these amendments to achieve justice for all.”
He explained that “among these amendments is the cancellation of the legal age clause at 60 years and returning it to 63 years, as was previously in effect.”
On the other hand, Sultan criticized the government for its delay in submitting the 2025 budget schedules to parliament, noting that “this delay has clearly impacted the implementation of many ministry projects and regional development projects due to the lack of necessary funding.” He accused the government of not being serious about finalizing the budget schedules and amending the retirement law.
It is noteworthy that the amendments to the Retirement Law aim to achieve financial sustainability for the Retirement Fund, address the challenges of unemployment, and ensure fairness in the distribution of allocations.
