Macron postpones his visit to IraqThe Kurdistan Regional Government’s representative in France, Ali Dolmari, confirmed on Saturday (September 6, 2025) that French President Emmanuel Macron has postponed his visit to Iraq due to complex political developments in the region and the world.

In statements, Dolmari indicated that “the postponement of President Macron’s visit to Iraq, scheduled for September 11, until the end of this year, was due to complex political developments in the region and the world, and his preoccupation with the war in Ukraine.”

The KRG representative noted that “President Barzani’s meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot touched on ‘regional transformations,’ including the peace process in Turkey, the resolution of the Kurdish and Syrian issues, and relations between Erbil and Baghdad.”

Stressing that “the two parties stressed the need to resolve the differences between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government through the constitution.”

He explained that “relations between the region and France are very strong, but there is a shared desire to expand them to include the fields of economy, art, education, and culture.”

Dolmari quoted the Mayor of Paris as telling President Barzani that she “wants to designate a house in the Erbil Citadel named ‘Paris’, as a symbol of women’s rights, coexistence and democracy.”

In a related context, Dolmari noted that “the participation of three Peshmerga fighters in the inauguration ceremony of Peshmerga Street in a Paris park carried symbolic connotations, as they represented different religious groups: Yazidis, Christians, and Muslims.”

He added, “The Paris City Council, which includes about 100 members from various parties, voted by majority to name a street in the French capital after the Peshmerga.”

Yesterday, Friday, the French capital, Paris, witnessed the opening of the Peshmerga Road in André Citron Park, in the presence of President Barzani and the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, and with the participation of political and academic figures from France, Kurdistan, and the world.
