Tax Reform Committee: Revenues Increased by 26 Percent
2025-09-02
The Tax Reform Committee announced on Tuesday that it had achieved 100 percent of the reforms with government support, while noting that tax revenues had increased by 26 percent. Abdul-Hussein al-Anbaki, head of the Higher Tax Reform Committee, told the official news agency, “Iraq had not witnessed any real tax reform before the formation of the Higher Tax Reform Committee.”
Al-Anbaky also explained that “a roadmap for tax reform was drawn up in 2013 but was not implemented,” noting that “this government is the first to form a higher committee to monitor the implementation of tax reforms, and therefore what is being achieved now represents 100% reform compared to previous years.”
Al-Anbaky also noted that “Iraq achieved a 26% increase in tax revenues in 2024 compared to 2023,” noting that “the goal of the reforms is primarily awareness-raising, to strengthen citizens’ confidence in the government and ensure that the costs of extortion, delays, and bargaining go into the state treasury rather than the pockets of the corrupt.”
