A member of the Anbar Provincial Council, Adnan Kazim Al-Kubaisi, denied on Thursday the news circulating about the handover of American sites inside the Ain Al-Assad base building to the Iraqi army, stressing the inaccuracy of this story about the evacuation of the building by the US-led international coalition forces.
Al-Kubaisi said in a statement to Al-Maalomah Agency, “The news that spoke of a complete withdrawal of American forces from the Ain Al-Assad base in the Al-Baghdadi area in the Hit district, west of Anbar, is false, and what happened was merely the movement of some of its forces for unclear reasons.”
He added: “There are security agreements between the central government and the American forces that specify the mechanism for the deployment and withdrawal of these forces, and the Anbar local government does not have full details about the remaining American forces inside the building.”
Al-Kubaisi confirmed that “American forces are still present inside the Ain Al-Assad base building, and what was raised about their evacuation is baseless and not based on reality.”
