Member of the Sovereignty Alliance, Ahmed al-Dulaimi, revealed on Monday that Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani refused to include the Popular Mobilization Forces Law during today’s session, under the influence of what he described as “American recommendations refusing to vote in favor of the law.”
Al-Dulaimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency: “The Parliament Speaker rejected the request of more than 160 MPs to include the Popular Mobilization Forces Law in the parliament session, after receiving orders from the US embassy in Baghdad to prevent the passage of the law, despite the desire of Shiite blocs and some Sunni parties, for goals he described as exposed.”
He added that “those who proposed including the law were surprised by al-Mashhadani’s insistence on not including it in the session’s provisions, amid demands to hold him accountable for deviating from the national path and submitting to the desires of external forces.”
Al-Dulaimi indicated that “political blocs and parties warned al-Mashhadani against the consequences of supporting the American plan aimed at dissolving the Popular Mobilization Forces, stressing that the Mobilization Forces are a government security institution and it is not within the jurisdiction of Parliament to dissolve or abolish it.”
Concluding his remarks, Al-Dulaimi warned that “dissolving the Popular Mobilization Forces will result in a major security vacuum that will pave the way for ISIS gangs to enter and destabilize the country, which is what the US administration is planning.”
