Erbil: Residents near Harir base reject US consulate call to evacuate their homes

Local residents in Erbil Governorate confirmed on Friday their rejection of a call issued by the US Consulate demanding that they evacuate their homes located near the Harir military base.
A citizen, Salar Al-Jaf, told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the US consulate asked residents to evacuate their homes adjacent to the base due to fears of potential attacks,” adding that “residents refused to heed these calls and insisted on remaining in their homes.”
Al-Jaf pointed out that “residents called on the Kurdistan Regional Government to prevent their areas from being turned into military barracks,” stressing their “readiness to organize peaceful protests if the evacuation demands continue.”
He explained that “Harir base has witnessed, in recent days, the arrival of large American military reinforcements by air from Baghdad and Anbar.”
