Al-Sultani - Washington is pressuring to obstruct the Popular Mobilization Law and the government must not respondInformation/Exclusive:
MP Suhaila al-Sultani confirmed on Sunday that Iraq is facing internal and external pressure to obstruct the passage of the civil service and retirement law for members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). She emphasized that the United States is directly seeking to prevent the law’s passage by pressuring the Iraqi government.

“Everyone now knows that the obstacles to the Popular Mobilization Forces’ service and retirement law are not technical or procedural, but primarily political, and there are parties that have prioritized their personal interests over the public interest,” Al-Sultani told Al-Maalouma News Agency. “The American insistence on obstructing the law represents blatant interference in Iraq’s internal affairs,” she added.

She added, “The passage of this law is not only related to the rights of Popular Mobilization Forces fighters, but is a sovereign and national matter that affects Iraq’s security and stability.” She emphasized that “the government must not yield to any external pressure, because Iraqi sovereignty must be above all considerations.”

It is worth noting that the Popular Mobilization Forces’ service and retirement law is still stalled in parliament, despite years having passed since its introduction, amid urgent parliamentary and popular calls for its approval, considering it a natural entitlement for the Popular Mobilization Forces’ fighters who have contributed to defending Iraq and its sovereignty.
