Security expert Qatari al-Samarmad revealed updated statistics on Tuesday regarding the number of US forces stationed at Ain al-Asad Air Base in the al-Baghdadi district, west of Anbar province. He indicated that a limited number of soldiers remain after thousands were evacuated to the Kurdistan Region.
Al-Samarmad told Al-Maalouma, “Information available from inside the Ain al-Assad base indicates the presence of approximately 120 American soldiers, including personnel working for a private American security company.”
He added that “most coalition personnel, both American and foreign, have been evacuated from the base toward the Harir base in Erbil Governorate, northern Iraq,” noting that “US forces still retain large quantities of heavy, medium, and light weapons and military equipment inside the base building, without any official explanation as to why they have not been moved.”
Al-Samarmad pointed out that “the number of remaining forces is symbolic, compared to the previous force, which was estimated at approximately 7,000 soldiers representing 60 foreign countries within the US-led international coalition.”
He stressed that “retaining a small number of soldiers and equipment may indicate undeclared intentions regarding the nature of the future American presence in the region, which requires government clarification regarding the fate of these forces and equipment.”
