Political observer Sabah Al-Akili warned on Tuesday of a new American scenario aimed at reshuffling the security situation in Iraq and bringing the criminal organization ISIS back to the forefront, through a sudden withdrawal of American forces from their bases in Baghdad and Anbar towards the Kurdistan Region.
Al-Akili said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The withdrawal of American forces from Iraq must be complete and not through redeployment from one location to another within Iraqi territory,” noting that “the decision to withdraw suddenly at this time raises many question marks.”
He added, “This withdrawal is not in line with the position announced by former US President Donald Trump regarding a complete withdrawal from Iraq, which indicates a change in US policy towards the country.”
He pointed out that “the American movements may pave the way for a scenario of ISIS reorganization, especially in light of intelligence reports confirming the presence of approximately 5,000 members of the organization in areas such as Wadi Hauran, Wadi al-Shai, and the Hamrin Mountains, in addition to camps on the borders with Jordan and Syria.”
Al-Akeili called on the Iraqi government to “deal with these movements with extreme caution, and take preemptive measures to thwart any plot aimed at destabilizing security and stability and bringing terrorism back to the forefront.”
