Minister of Trade Athir Al-Ghariri confirmed on Saturday that the government’s support for the food basket contributed to Iraq leaving the top spot among countries with the highest inflation rates, while pointing out that food prices in Iraq are cheaper than in the global market and neighboring countries. Minister of Trade Athir Al-Ghariri told the official agency, “Due to the circumstances that the region has gone through, there is a rise in prices, but the markets in Iraq are stable.” He pointed out that “Iraq left the list of countries with the highest inflation rates by continuing to distribute the food basket and flour.”
Al-Ghariri explained that “food prices in Iraq are lower than in all neighboring countries, due to the government’s continued support for the main food basket items (sugar, rice, oil, and flour).”
He pointed out that “the prices of all these materials in Iraq are cheaper than the global market and even cheaper than those of neighboring countries, due to the support provided by the government and its continuity throughout the year.”
