MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi confirmed on Friday that the fight against corruption in state institutions is still ink on paper, wondering about the amount of money recovered from corrupt networks.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The most important problem facing the Iraqi state is corruption, which is unfortunately protected and fortified by some forces, and therefore all talk about fighting corruption is just ink on paper,” indicating that “the evidence is the number of detainees and the amount of money recovered from those networks.”
He added, “Iraq will remain in a state of danger if there is no real process to combat corruption that begins with state institutions, by preventing the exploitation of influence and projects, and ending with the opening of all files without exception,” noting that “the most important threat facing the political process currently is corruption.”
It is noteworthy that dozens of cases have been referred to the competent authorities due to suspicions of financial and administrative corruption, but so far the most important and dangerous cases that have stirred public opinion in recent years have not been resolved.
