Security expert Qatari al-Samarmad described the evacuation of US forces from some of their positions inside the Ain al-Assad base in the al-Baghdadi area of Hit district, west of Anbar, on Wednesday as a “tactical operation with exposed objectives.”
In a statement to Al-Maalomah, al-Samarmad said, “The US forces did not evacuate their military equipment from inside the base, but had previously withdrawn part of their forces to other bases.” He considered that “this step has a tactical nature aimed at camouflage, in anticipation of any potential targeting by Iran.”
He added that “the base has recently witnessed the landing of US aircraft carrying soldiers, which indicates an increase in the number of troops inside the building,” noting that “US aircraft have also resumed aerial surveillance operations in the skies of the western regions of the governorate.”
Al-Samarmad confirmed that “the security situation in the western sector of Anbar, towards the border strip with Syria, is stable and has not witnessed any security breaches,” indicating that “the security leadership has ordered an increase in fortifications along the border to prevent any potential breach.”
