Saman Ali, a leader in the National Position Movement, revealed on Tuesday that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is deducting more than 21% of the total funds allocated for its employees’ salaries, without any oversight or deterrence from the Baghdad government.
Ali explained in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency that “the regional government has deducted more than 21% of its employees’ salaries sent by the central government, equivalent to more than 400 billion dinars, in addition to receiving the salaries of hundreds of ghost employees.”
He added, “The regional government has not paid its employees’ salaries regularly since 2015,” noting that “the deductions go directly into the pockets of the region’s ruling families. These are huge sums that have not been detected by oversight authorities due to the existence of political alliances between the ruling parties.”
Ali stressed that “the central government is negligent in dealing with this issue, as it is unable to open the file of the theft of salaries of the region’s employees and bring those involved to justice.”
