Transport prepares a land fleet for development projects and the port of FawThe Ministry of Transport has developed a comprehensive plan to enhance its truck fleet by purchasing modern trucks from reputable international manufacturers, with the aim of deploying them in strategic and vital projects, most notably the development road, the Grand Faw Port, and the activation of the International Land Transport System (TIR).

The director of the ministry’s media office, Maitham Al-Safi, told Al-Sabah that the plan includes supplying the land transport fleet with a sufficient number of modern trucks by purchasing them from reputable international manufacturers, in line with the requirements of the next phase. He pointed out that all trucks of the General Company for Land Transport will be ready to participate in the development road projects, the Grand Faw Port, and the International Land Transport System (TIR), in addition to its regular activities in the ports and contracts with various ministries. Al-Safi explained that the ministry will adopt advanced tracking and monitoring systems via satellite (GPS) for all trucks, while subjecting the specialized personnel to professional courses, in managing comprehensive transport operations from the ports to the Turkish border along the land route.

He explained that the ministry recently completed the contract to purchase 100 modern multi-purpose trucks, to be part of the first phase of the Grand Faw Port project. Al-Safi added that there is coordination with the General Traffic Directorate to organize the process of granting licenses to trucks operating under the “TIR” system, ensuring their compliance with international standards and national legislation, and facilitating their registration and licensing, which contributes to activating the system in the country and ensuring the smooth movement of trucks through border crossings, in support of regional and international trade exchange, and in implementation of the state’s policy to develop the land transport sector.
