Information/Exclusive:
MP Bassem al-Gharibawi affirmed on Sunday that adopting electronic voting within the House of Representatives represents the optimal solution for passing stalled laws, most notably the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law. He noted that this mechanism will grant MPs greater freedom and free them from restrictions imposed by some political blocs.
Al-Gharibawi told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “Traditional voting in parliament is often subject to pressure from political blocs that only care about their own personal interests, which has led to the suspension of many important laws that serve citizens.”
He added, “Electronic voting ensures transparency, prevents political blackmail, and makes representatives more independent in making decisions that are consistent with the national interest, away from partisan dictates.” He stressed that “delaying the approval of the Popular Mobilization Forces law harms an official institution that has made sacrifices for the security and stability of Iraq.”
