Former MP Ghaleb Mohammed criticized the federal government’s procrastination in resolving the issue of localizing salaries for Kurdistan Region employees, stressing that the government sends salaries to corrupt officials in the regional government instead of sending them directly to employees.
Mohammed told Al-Maalouma, “The federal government can transfer salaries in the region and link them directly to Baghdad without the need to send money to the Kurdistan Region government, thus eliminating the financial crisis and delays in disbursing dues.”
He added, “Baghdad can start linking the salaries of Sulaymaniyah and its affiliated departments, especially federal departments, in order to eliminate the current financial crisis and ensure that employees receive their salaries without suffering.” He explained that “the current government deals with the corrupt and sends salaries to them. It should have been better off sending salaries directly to employees.”
He explained that “there is an urgent need to localize the salaries of the region’s employees without resorting to the caretaker government in Kurdistan,” noting that “the Ministry of Finance in the federal government confirms that it does not have the authority to localize the salaries of the region’s employees,” asking: If this ministry does not have the authority, then who is the body that has the authority to localize?”
