Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadhil announced on Thursday that Iraq had achieved an unprecedented record of 28,000 megawatts of power production, the first time in the country’s history.
“Despite the challenges, we have reached peak production thanks to a well-thought-out plan that included long-term maintenance contracts, station modernization, the installation of advanced cooling systems, and partial use of imported fuel,” Fadel said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency.
The minister confirmed, “We have agreements with General Electric to build power plants with a capacity of 24,000 megawatts, and with Siemens with a capacity of 14,000 megawatts. We will soon sign an agreement with Shanghai Power with a capacity of 10,000 megawatts, with the aim of filling the gap in the growing demand for energy.”
