Al-Kadhimi - The regional government is evading its oil commitments under flimsy pretextsAl-Maalouma / Exclusive..
Representative Moeen Al-Kadhimi accused the regional government on Wednesday of not adhering to the financial agreement with the federal government, noting that the region has only handed over 120 billion dinars in non-oil revenues despite receiving 900 billion dinars in salaries for the month of May.
Al-Kadhimi confirmed in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency that “the agreement between the two parties includes clear obligations, but the regional government has only implemented a small part of them, as it continues to use the pretext of damage to oil fields due to the attacks to avoid resuming exports through federal channels.”
He explained that “joint committees between the federal Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Natural Resources in the region are following up on the resumption of oil exports, which are supposed to start with a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day and eventually reach 400,000 barrels. However, he pointed out the lack of transparency or credibility on the part of the region in this regard.”
He pointed out that “the current political situation and the approaching elections may push the federal government to indulge the region at the expense of the public interest, despite the continued smuggling of approximately 250,000 barrels of oil per day via tankers to neighboring countries, the proceeds of which go to the region’s political parties without being included in the official accounts.”
