The northern port of Umm Qasr in Basra Governorate witnessed significant activity during July 2025, with an increase in the number of ships and handling, reflecting the development of operational processes at Iraqi ports and growing international confidence in them.
The Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, told Shafak News Agency, “The northern port of Umm Qasr witnessed, during the month of July, the docking of (118) container ships on its docks, with loads exceeding one million tons of various goods, which represents a distinguished monthly activity.”
Al-Fartousi explained that “the total number of handled containers reached (93,103) containers, with (47,712) imported containers, (43,098) exported containers, in addition to (2,293) containers of the national product, with a total weight of (1,074,315) tons, which indicates a noticeable increase in handling efficiency and stability of maritime traffic.”
He added, “The port’s performance indicators over the past month reflect the success of development plans and the effectiveness of operational personnel, as well as the growing confidence of international shipping lines in Iraq’s infrastructure and its ability to meet the demands of foreign trade.”
