MP calls on the government to appeal Security Council Resolution 833 regarding Khor AbdullahAl-Maalouma/Baghdad…
MP Bassem Nughmesh called on the Iraqi government on Saturday to file an official appeal with the UN Security Council against Resolution 833, considering it an “unfair” decision issued under exceptional circumstances, depriving Iraq of its sovereign right to the maritime border and Khor Abdullah.
Nughmesh told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must take urgent action at the political and diplomatic levels within the Security Council, and pressure the permanent member states to obtain initial approval to reconsider Resolution 833.”
He added that “the resolution on demarcating the border with Kuwait granted it lands that were under Iraqi sovereignty, without taking into account Iraq’s historical and geographical rights,” noting that “more than 200 MPs signed a rejection of the Khor Abdullah agreement, as it represents a clear infringement of national sovereignty.”
Naghamish stressed that “the Iraqi government is required to take a clear national stance to challenge the decision and work to restore Iraq’s maritime rights that were lost due to unfair international decisions.”
