The Council of Ministers announced on Tuesday its approval to equip floating power plants with a production capacity of 590 megawatts for national electricity via “generating ships.”
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office and received by Shafaq News Agency stated that “the Council approved, during its session held today, amending its decision No. (437 of 2025) regarding the preparation of floating power stations, including authorizing the Ministry of Electricity to contract directly with the “Kar Power” alliance, BKPS Company , as an exception to the instructions for implementing government contracts, to add a production capacity of (590 megawatts) to the national grid via generating ships.”
The statement added, “This is to cover the deficit during peak demand for a period of 70 days without extension. The council also obligated the alliance to pay the cost of transporting fuel waste in accordance with environmental requirements and dock fees, with the matter to be re-presented if an extension is necessary.”
The Council also approved, according to the statement, “amending its Resolution No. (480 of 2025), to include the exemption of the Najaf Refinery Development Project from the instructions for implementing government contracts, the controls attached to them, and the standard documents,” explaining that “it was approved to amend Resolution No. (73 of 2025) regarding the Basra-Haditha Crude Oil Pipeline Project, to include the formula (design, equipment, installation, and operation), provided that the tender for the pipeline includes 56 nodes that include all systems and their accessories, with the exception of equipping the pipeline, with the expansion of the scope of participation to include the list of companies proposed by the Ministry of Oil, and contracting with an international consulting entity concerned with all the details of the project.”
