The Iraqi Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with global telecommunications company Hytera, launched the first unified emergency services center in Baghdad, using the SmartOne smart communications platform. This unprecedented step aims to modernize the country’s security infrastructure and enhance emergency response.

The project, which came into effect in July 2025, represents a major shift in the way emergency calls are handled, replacing 26 emergency service numbers with a unified centralized 911 call system, the first of its kind in Iraq.

The SmartOne platform enables the integration of multiple communications systems, such as DMR radio, TETRA, and field broadcast cameras, into a unified, interconnected operating environment, encompassing more than 300 operator seats.

The platform also provides an electronic dispatch system (CAD), which supports receiving calls, creating case files, and directing specialized field teams quickly and efficiently.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said in this regard, “This project represents a qualitative shift in digital infrastructure and a strategic step towards enhancing community security and improving the efficiency of emergency and humanitarian response services.”

The system is based on a microservices architecture, providing high flexibility and scalability, while the advanced database enables incident analysis, performance monitoring, and proactive alerts, enhancing decision-making speed for relevant authorities.

Since its launch, the center has received approximately 100,000 emergency calls, demonstrating the platform’s readiness to address the capital’s growing security and humanitarian challenges. The project was shortlisted for the 2025 International Critical Communications Awards in the “Best Use of Critical Communications in Public Safety” category, in international recognition of its significant impact on improving emergency services in Iraq.
