MP Amir Al-Maamouri expressed his deep concern on Thursday regarding the decision to cancel the use of “electoral ink” in the upcoming elections, warning that this step could constitute a potential gateway to fraud and duplicate voting.
Al-Maamouri said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The issue of removing the ink requires very advanced technologies to control the issue of voters not voting twice, which requires real and decisive steps by the Independent High Electoral Commission to control the database and ensure the credibility of the electoral process.”
He added, “This is the first time that the use of electoral ink has been cancelled, which has raised real repercussions and concerns within political circles, especially regarding how to identify voters and prevent them from entering polling stations again without adopting a reliable means of verification.”
He pointed out that “there are many questions about the motives behind this decision, wondering: “Was removing the ink an intentional or unintentional step? Are there technical or security reasons behind it? And were there complaints about the use of ink in the past?”
Al-Maamouri concluded his statement by emphasizing that “ink was not an obstacle to holding elections in previous periods, even in the face of opposition and complex security conditions,” calling on the commission to adopt effective alternatives to ensure the integrity of the elections and prevent voter manipulation.
