Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a special meeting on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) regarding the development road project, attended by the Minister of Transport, the head of the Supreme Council for Coordination between Governorates, a number of general managers and advisors, and a representative of Oliver Wyman, the project consultant. He directed all parties concerned with the project to complete all work within the coming months.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s media office stated that “Al-Sudani stressed the project’s great importance and its geopolitical, developmental, economic, and investment dimensions for Iraq.”
The statement added that “the Prime Minister directed all parties involved in the project to complete all assigned work to complete the first phase of the development road within the coming months. He also instructed the Ministry of Planning to create a special component for the project’s preparations and to prepare all its requirements.”
He pointed out that “the meeting discussed issues related to the progress of work on key components of the project that represent conflicts affecting progress, such as archaeological sites or minefields, and matters related to the acquisition of public and private lands.”
He added, “The meeting also included a discussion of developments in the work of the Grand Faw Port project, and a review of the financial and economic report prepared by Oliver Wyman.”
He pointed out that “the meeting also discussed the final exit point for the road linking Iraq to Turkey, as a ministerial committee has been formed to determine the route and crossing point in coordination with the Kurdistan Region.”
