Kirkuk International Airport announced today, Sunday, the landing of the first Global Aviation plane on the airport runway.

Airport spokesman Hardi Al-Salihi told Shafaq News Agency, “Kirkuk International Airport administration announces the landing of the first plane belonging to Global Aviation at 3:00 PM today,” indicating that “this step comes within the airport administration’s plans to expand the network of air destinations to and from Kirkuk, and to enhance the governorate’s presence on the local and international air transport map.”

Al-Salhi explained that the initial flight will be from Saudi Arabia, noting that the company that owns the aircraft has regular routes to international airports and will begin operating flights to Kirkuk as part of opening new horizons for cooperation between Kirkuk Airport and other airports in the region.

He added that the first flight is a pilot, and that Kirkuk will later be included in the regular flight schedules of international airports, contributing to the revitalization of air traffic and trade and tourism exchanges through Kirkuk International Airport.

Kirkuk International Airport officially opened in mid-October 2022 following a major upgrade. Serving the residents of Kirkuk and the surrounding areas, it features modern infrastructure and receives limited domestic and international flights, most notably to Baghdad and Istanbul. The airport aims to enhance Kirkuk’s air connectivity and stimulate the local economy.
