Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, MP Ikhlas al-Dulaimi, revealed on Sunday that a crucial meeting will be held in two days between committees from the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad regarding the mechanism for resuming oil exports from the region.

Al-Dulaimi told Shafaq News Agency, “Oil spending between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government is ongoing. Joint committees have been formed between the federal Ministry of Oil and the Kurdistan Regional Ministry of Resources, and they will hold a decisive meeting next Tuesday.”

She added, “The joint meeting between the committees will determine the mechanism for resuming Kurdistan Region oil exports, receiving oil revenues, and disbursing salaries for employees for the past five months.”

She explained that “the meeting will decide on the mechanism for exporting 220,000 barrels and delivering the proceeds to the federal government. The federal government will then release the salaries of the region’s employees, which amount to 960 billion dinars per month.”

Earlier on Sunday, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reiterated his government’s readiness to hand over oil production to the federal government in exchange for salaries and the region’s share of the annual federal budget. He called on Baghdad to end “collective punishment” and “illegal and unconstitutional” practices against the people of Kurdistan.
