A local source in Kirkuk province reported on Saturday that vehicles belonging to the Iraqi Ministry of Finance began arriving in Erbil, carrying funds allocated for the payment of salaries to employees of the Kurdistan Region.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, “Vehicles loaded with money entered Kirkuk Governorate today, coming from Baghdad, heading towards Erbil,” noting that “the money is being transported in armored vehicles belonging to the Ministry of Finance, accompanied by a security force to ensure it arrives safely at its destination.”

The source indicated that “this step comes in implementation of the agreement recently concluded between the federal government and the regional government to pay the salaries of employees in Kurdistan directly from Baghdad, according to an agreed-upon timetable.”

A source in the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Finance and Economy revealed earlier today, Saturday, that the distribution of salaries for the region’s employees for the month of May will begin tomorrow, Sunday .

The source, who requested anonymity, told Shafaq News Agency, “The Ministry of Finance and Economy in the regional government will deposit 120 billion dinars as local revenues tomorrow, Sunday, into the account of the federal Ministry of Finance through the Central Bank of Iraq branch in Erbil .”

He added, “The federal Ministry of Finance will deposit 960 billion dinars into the account of the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the regional government next Monday, as the May salary dues,” noting that “the ministry will begin distributing salaries to employees from Tuesday until next Thursday .”

The source indicated that “the Ministry of Finance and Economy will deposit another 120 billion dinars into the federal Ministry of Finance’s account on the following Sunday as local revenue, while the latter will deposit 960 billion dinars to cover June salaries. Salaries will be distributed in the region from Tuesday to Thursday of the same week.”
