The Ministry of Transport announced, on Monday, the resumption of Iraqi Airways flights to the Islamic Republic of Iran, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, after a temporary suspension imposed by the regional security situation during the past period.
The Ministry confirmed in a statement received by / Al-Maalouma / agency, that “the decision came after high-level coordination with the relevant security and regulatory authorities, and based on the stability of the situation that allows for the gradual and safe return of air transport.”
The statement, quoting the Director General of the Iraqi Airways Company, Manaf Abdul-Moneim, stated that “the flights in the first phase will operate four flights per week, two flights from Baghdad International Airport on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and two flights from Najaf International Airport on Wednesdays and Sundays.”
The statement indicated that “the Iraqi Airways played a pivotal role in resuming these flights through its continuous technical and operational coordination with the relevant authorities, and its monitoring of travel demand. These efforts, along with the stabilization of the situation, contributed to increasing the number of daily flights to various destinations to more than 40 flights per day, as part of a well-thought-out expansion plan that will include increasing the number of flights to a number of destinations coinciding with the Arbaeen pilgrimage, most notably Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Bahrain, and Lebanon. The statement affirmed the airlines’ commitment to providing comfortable and safe services that keep pace with citizens’ aspirations.”
The statement explained that “this development reflects the effectiveness of the plans adopted by the Ministry of Transport and the Iraqi Airways to strengthen the regional and international air transport network, and achieve smooth air traffic in a way that serves the interests of the Iraqi traveler and strengthens ties with friendly and sisterly countries.”
