Iraq manufactures the first portable thermal camera system to monitor borders - ports and oil fieldsShafaq News/ The General Company for Communications and Power Equipment, a division of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, announced on Sunday that the Al-Kindi Factory in Nineveh Governorate had successfully designed and implemented a “highly efficient” portable thermal imaging camera system.

In a statement today, the ministry quoted the company’s general manager, Fawaz Mufleh Darak, as saying that the system consists of a pivoting wheel equipped with an advanced ASH_THC_50SR thermal camera with a range of up to 6 kilometers. He explained that the system operates using infrared technology with optical and digital zoom features, providing high-resolution night vision and 360-degree surveillance 24 hours a day, without interruption.

He pointed out that the system is expandable as needed, as it can be equipped with cameras with a longer range of up to 9, 15, 20, and even 30 kilometers, depending on the beneficiary’s request.

Darak continued, saying that the new system is an ideal solution for monitoring borders, land ports, oil fields, and other vital sites. It has been implemented in accordance with international standards, reflecting the development of Iraqi capabilities in the field of technical manufacturing and advanced thermal surveillance.

It’s worth noting that the thermal imaging camera production plant at the Al-Kindi factory, affiliated with the General Company for Communications and Power Equipment, was inaugurated in December 2024. It has a production capacity of 1,000 cameras annually, with ranges of up to 30 kilometers, to support the work of security agencies and institutions, in addition to civilian uses.
