The World Gold Council announced on Wednesday that Iraq and four other Arab countries together hold more than 1,000 tons of global gold reserves.
The council stated in its latest table for July, which Shafaq News Agency has reviewed, that “the top five Arab countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Algeria, Iraq, and Libya, possess a combined 1,092.9 tons of gold,” indicating that “the remaining Arab countries listed, namely Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, the UAE, and Syria, possess a combined 495.3 tons.”
He added, “Iraq maintained its 29th global ranking out of 100 countries listed in the table, with its gold holdings amounting to 162.7 tons, representing 16.8% of its other reserves.”
The Council noted that “the United States of America tops the list of the world’s largest gold holders, with 8,133 tons, followed by Germany with 3,350 tons, then Italy with 2,451 tons, while Iceland and Hong Kong came in last with holdings of 2.1 and 2 tons, respectively.”
