The Ministry of Transport announced on Sunday that air traffic in Iraqi airspace has reached an unprecedented high, exceeding 700 flights per day, the highest rate the country has seen in years.
In a statement received by Al-Maalouma News Agency, the ministry said, “Iraq has succeeded in a short period of time in developing its air navigation infrastructure and enhancing the efficiency of its personnel, enabling it to manage this large volume of air traffic with high efficiency despite regional complexities.”
She explained that “daily aircraft transit rates have gradually increased from approximately 300-350 flights previously, to more than 700 flights per day in the final phase, reflecting the renewed confidence of international and regional airlines in using Iraqi airspace as a primary corridor for their transit flights.”
She noted that “many major airlines have returned to operating overflights over Iraq, due to the operational reliability and accurate air traffic control services it provides, in addition to Iraq’s unique geographic location, which makes it a key link between East and West.”
She stressed the continuation of the development programs implemented by the company in coordination with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which include modernizing air navigation systems and expanding the use of civil airspace, thus enhancing Iraq’s position as a strategic air corridor in the region.
